All Hail the King of Skin!

 

On my last trip to the Lush boutique, I was introduced to royalty: King of Skin, one of the body butters from Lush. Like many Lush products, it is 100% vegan.

To use, simply rub it on your skin after you wash, rinse gently, and pat dry. You’ll feel like you’ve been given the royal treatment!

King of Skin is formulated with cocoa butter, shea butter and coconut butter, bananas, toning essential oils, jojoba and almond oils, fresh avocado and oatmeal.  These ingredients come together win regal harmony, leaving your skin soft, smooth, and well moisturized.  As an added bonus, King of Skin doesn’t have much smell so it won’t compete with whatever fragrance you choose to wear.

It’s a little pricey, $13.95 for 3.3oz. But as someone with dry skin, I think it’s worth it.

ULTRA BLAND? Unfortunately.

 

I am such a LUSH girl!  I love their handmade products and the fact that they are preservative free as possible.  In Ultra Bland, I thought I had found it all: makeup remover and facial cleanser.  It is color and fragrance free, and is said to wipe away everything - even permanent marker.  The sales associate even told me that it could be used to remove stubborn labels.

So I decided that I needed to have a jar of this stuff.  It does take makeup off, and it does so relatively well.  But no better than your average cold cream. What I hated the most about this product was the thick, greasy residue it leaves behind.  This is my pet peeve.  I don't like to use one thing to remove my makeup and then have to use something else to remove the remover!  The residue Ultra Bland leaves behind makes it not worth using.

I am disappointed in this product.  At $29.95,  it's a complete waste of money.  I can find a much better makeup remover for the same amount  - probably less.  I also had no luck with stubborn labels...

Ickle Bot!

 

Just the other day I need a little extra help getting to sleep.  I decided to give Ickle Bot at try.   Mr. Bot is as cute as he can be.  He certainly isn’t your average round bath bomb.  He’s shaped like a little space-bot, programmed to create a veil of sleepiness.  He is flavored flavored with lavender and chamomile, and with his shape, is geared for kids.

Unfortunately, Bot didn’t bring the beauty sleep.  He fizzled our almost instantly and left no scent behind.  I certainly did not feel any more relaxed after my bath Bathing with Mr. Bot was no more relaxing than an ordinary bath.  And I still had trouble sleeping!  

I can’t stay mad at Ickle Bot, though.  He is just so darn cute.  And he did leave my bath water nice and soft.  He’s just not what I expected.

Silky Underwear and Candy Fluff

 
 

    No, these are not adult film titles.   These are the names of two of my favorite dusting powders from LUSH.  It’s summertime, and sometimes the heat can get to be pretty intense.  Summer is a great time to dust a little powder on your back to keep a your shirt from sticking.

        According to LUSH experts, “Centuries ago, when bathing was a less common occurrence, people used to sprinkle fragrant powder all over. We wanted to bring back the tradition (except we still like our daily washes) so we powder after we shower for ultra soft and fragrant skin.”

Silky Underwear was the first LUSH dusting powder I tried, and I tried it because I loved the scent.  Silky Underwear is scented with sexy jasmine and vetivert, and leaves your skin extremely soft and beautifully scented.  It contains bits of fair trade cocoa butter to leave skin lightly moisturized.   

    Later, I fell in love with Candy Fluff.  Candy Fluff has tiny gold and iridescent sparkles, which give the powder a fun shimmer, and have the same effect on your skin. Cornstarch absorbs moisture and leaves your skin silky to the touch.  Candy Fluff will leave you smelling like strawberries, marshmallows, candy, and all manner of sweet, pink, goodness.  

Need a little something to smooth your skin?  Whisk away moisture?  Scent your bed?  LUSH’s dusting powders will do the trick, and do it with style.   Silky Underwear and Candy Fluff are my favorite scents (at the moment - this is subject to change at any time!).  However, LUSH also makes dusting powders called Karma,  Honey Beehave, Vanilla Puff, and Bare Naked Lady.

Find Happiness over the Rainbow

 

     Last night, I went over the rainbow.  I dropped LUSH’S DOROTHY  Bubble Bath Bar into my tub.  It’s bubble bath in a bar form.  DOROTHY was introduced for Spring 2010.  My bath water took on a lovely blue color, and was scented with the smell of ylang and sweet fig.  Paradise!

    DOROTHY is awesome.  DOROTHY is environmentally friendly: no packaging.  DOROTHY is also a vegan (product). DOROTHY is a great (and legal) mood booster.  And thanks to the fact that DOROTHY is solid and not liquid, DOROTHY will be able to go with you anywhere.

Assorted Bath Bombs

Oh, the Lush Boutique... it’s like the Promised Land. One of my favorite Lush products is the bath bomb.  They have an assortment of bombs that come in different shapes, sizes and scents.  Most smell good enough to eat..Some have surprises inside: confetti, dried flower petals, seaweed, bits of cocoa butter...  

According to Lush, the bombs were formulated for people that aren’t able to use detergents in the bath. They’re simple to use: drop in the tub and enjoy.  It fizzes and makes your tub smell like a little piece of heaven.  There are about 30 bombs year-round.  They usually add a few special ones for each holiday.   Really, it doesn’t matter.  I’ve never met a bath bomb I didn’t like.

They can get pricey, though.  Prices range from $4.85 - $6.95 each.  A couple can be cut in half, giving you two uses.  Most are only big enough for one.  Pricey?  Yes.  Worth it?  Absolutely!  I have been using Lush bath bombs for about five years.  There is no other bath bomb.*

The biggest drawback to Lush products is that Lush boutiques are only in a few locations.    Thankfully, you can order their products online at  www.lush.com.

*Please bear this in mind: Stick with the Lush bath bombs.  All bath bombs are not created equal!  Just because it’s round and promises to make your tub smell nice doesn’t mean you can trust it.  No, no, no.  I’ve tried several lookalikes and they are not good.  Ladies, pay attention.  I was fine in the tub.  Once I got out, it wasn’t so nice the next day.  Be careful what you put in the water you’re sitting in, ladies.  ‘Nuff said.
